Touhoumon DevKit Beta Version 4

I guess June came early, eh?

Yes, well, by that I am referring to an earlier post, where I said “Don’t expect Version 4 till June at the earliest”. What does this have to do with anything? Well my fellow people, as of earlier today, I have finished Touhoumon DevKit Beta Version 4! The features of this version are as follows:

  • Touhoumon Species Definitions – All the species from the PC-98 Era are defined and ready for deploying and combat.
  • One new trainer battle –  Remember the Yuuka test battle from the most recent video? That battle is still there for you to mess around with.
  • One new text speed – Instant. The reason for this was because “Fast” was just too slow, and “Instant” feels more like “Fast” should.

Now, moving on to discuss this version and the next a bit more. Version 5 will be the version that contains the Windows 1 Era species (TH06-TH9.5). That may take a bit longer than the last version, due to more games, and some of these have a bit more forms. However, I will not put an estimated throw up date for this release. After version 5 will be Version 6, which contains all the species from the Windows 2 Era (TH10-TH12.8). If you’re wondering why TH13 isn’t there yet, it’s because no Touhoumon game currently released in English has any stats on them yet. The sprites, however, are included in the graphics folder, for those who want to mess around with them.

Hopefully you all enjoy this version! I look forward to finishing the rest and publicly releasing this for everyone to enjoy! I’ll see you all next time.

DevKit Video

Here, have some content in this dead sea of inactivity.

January 21, 2012

Inactivity

No, I’m not dead, nor is the DevKit. The blog is inactive because, well, I’m back in class. There’s not much to update with, as I haven’t done much work since the release of Version 3 – I’ve gotten a few species defined, but that’s about all.

Just keep an eye out, I don’t plan on letting this blog or the DevKit die anytime soon.

Touhoumon DevKit Version 3

And with this, I declare the third version of the DevKit to be finished and ready for release! It was a painful one, but it’s now actually getting into the meaty aspects of the DevKit.

Features:

  • Inclusion of all moves from Touhoumon 1.5, with the Physical/Special Split from DPPt
  • Reordered DevKit Pokedex

Now, let me explain these features a bit more, because there’s really more I need to say about them. The moves, like I said, all come from Touhoumon 1.5, due to the fact that every Touhoumon Hack are all based off of Touhoumon 1.5, with their own minor changes and adaptations. However, a key difference is that these moves are running with the Physical/Special Split that was introduced in DPPt, as well as Touhoumon 1.8. There is a problem, however; Because there was no way for me to figure out what was Physical or Special, half of, if not most of, the moves are all Stab-in-the-Dark Guesses at whether they are Physical or Special. If you download this and are skilled with this, please feel free to contact me for corrections, I’d really appreciate it.

Now, for the DevKit Dex, I reordered it for a couple of reasons, primarily for the people. Originally I was going to have the Touhoumon replace the Pokemon up to the end of the list, however that didn’t seem right, as the text files would show CMarisa as “CHARMANDER” under the Internal Name. However, what I did still ended up doing that, but this time it was by accident – I made the Touhoumon come right after Deoxys in the Dex Listing. When I realized what I had done, it was too late. It’s not that big of an issue as it would have been if I started from Entry 1 and worked my way down the list to Entry 411, so I’m okay with it. Now, for the Dex Entries, it goes in order of Game Appearance, then the Music CD, Print Works, then Unofficial characters. This will be the final listing for the DevKit.

The upcoming version, Version 4, shall be where things start clicking together. It’ll be the start of editing the species so they work internally. It won’t be all of them, though – it’d be a fools errand to do all of them at once without releasing anything in between. It’ll probably every 150 or so that I’ll do before releasing, making it about 3 releases before the end of the DevKit. Sadly, I wouldn’t expect Version 4 to be out till, at the earliest, June. Classes start soon, and because of the grades I got last term, I really need to buckle down and focus harder on classes.

Hopefully you all enjoy it, and I’ll see you all next time!

Obligatory news update, because I felt it was needed

Okay, I’ll be honest, I’ve made almost no progress on the DevKit since the second release. First excuse I have to offer is surgery. I went into it about 2 hours after I released Version 2 (Specifically why I rushed it out there.), After that I’ve been recovering. I feel very much better – physically, at least. However, one of my eyes ended up becoming extremely sore and it’s become hard to keep it from not hurting while open for about 30 minutes to an hour at any given time. I’ve also been stricken with a recent bout f depressive/negativity due to the pain, as well as the holidays.

All in all, it’s been a shitty 17 days.

This doesn’t mean I don’t have news regarding the DevKit; I do. It may not be the best news, but I feel it’s probably for the best.

Originally, I had planned to include moves, Touhoumon, etc. from the various Touhoumon games in Existences. The problem with this is making them all sync up in harmony. An example of this: World Link/Another World have differing movepools from Insane Version, and different Touhoumon from Aqua + Yui. Don’t even get me started on 1.8; Despite how much I love 1.8, almost every concept is different – from the moves, the way Evolutions work and the species, straight down to new types and the Physical/Special Split. However, all of these games have (probably) one thing in common – They all branch off of the official Touhoumon 1.5 Version. Like the other versions before me, I shall base the DevKit’s Movepool, stats, and whatever else I can find off of Touhoumon English 1.5. In the end, this is probably the best solution to making this work. Once I finish the DevKit, if enough people want it, I’ll go and compile Movesets and Stats from the other Touhoumon games, possibly including 1.8. This will probably be the last version I release till roughly May or June, as school starts up again for me on the 10th.

That being said, I don’t know if I’ll finish before the 31st. Don’t hold your breath.

ChaoticInfinity Chatroom

So, I see a fair amount of people are visiting here – more than I expected and ever anticipated. I’m honestly surprised and honored that you all are interested in the work I’ve been doing enough, so thank you.

Anyways, that’s not the main reason behind this post. I’ve been meaning to make this post for a while, but haven’t due to distractions. I’ve current;y started up an official ChaoticInfinity Development channel. The links will be listed below. I shall be there 24/7, including when asleep, so don’t be afraid to pop on and leave a message for me, and I’ll try have an answer for you if or when you return, or if you just feel like hanging out somewhere for a while. I will draft the rules soon for the channel and attach them to an edit of this post. Hopefully you enjoy your stay there!

Feedback

I know it really doesn’t apply too much at this stage of the Beta, but if there’s anything that’s wrong with the DevKit – missing sprites, error messages, anything – please send me feedback on what it is, as well as how you obtained the error, if it was an actual error. If it’s a sprite issue, or something aside from Internet issues, tell me that as well, and I shall see what I can do to fix it. I don’t want it to feel like I’m just pushing this out there like a sloppy mess, I want it to be good.

Anyways, that’s all I have to say on that matter.

Touhoumon DevKit Beta 2

Yes, you heard right. After constant hours of working in a 2 day period, near non-stop, Beta 2 is now finished and up for download! Links will be provided at the bottom of the post.

Main features in this beta:

  • All the Boneka that will be in the DevKit, sans the Ten Desires ones, are all set up for use. Some Pokemon are between the Boneka, but that’s because when extracting, those slots were filled with Vocaloids, and I didn’t want to include those.

The next beta will have all the moves from the various Touhoumon games in existence – this includes World Link/Another World, Aqua+Yui, Touhoumon 1.8, Insane Version, and any others I can find. I wouldn’t expect this one for a while, though. So don’t get your hopes up for a holiday release. But eh, who knows. Things do happen, right?

Self Achievement 2 Unlocked: Extract ALL the Sprites

So, as the title says, I have extracted all the sprites from Another World/World Link. I have a total of 1021 sprites I need to finish converting to RPG maker Format, and then when that’s done, I shall have a Grand Total of 1625 sprites. Though, that number doesn’t seem right. I’ll probably go and recheck my math somewhere along the lines.

Anyways, I’ll start getting sprites from Aqua + Yui version sometime soon, maybe not till after Tuesday. After I obtain all the sprites I can get, I shall begin work on conversion. Hopefully, I should have all sprites finished before the 31st. If so, I’ll try and release it before the New Year.

Here’s hoping.

…No I totally didn’t just copy my post from Tumblr and put it here.

Edit: It’s 1624 Sprites, with 1020 extracted yesterday.

And we’re finished!

And with that, the last of my finals is finished and done. Thank the gods themselves, I was tired of being put under the stress of all these finals piling up. The term is now over, and that means just one thing – It’s time to resume work on the DevKit. I may throw up a Livestream of me working. If I do, you’ll hear about it elsewhere, it won’t be here.

Aside from all that, it feels good to finally be relieved of the stress that these finals have put on me. 2 weeks of freedom, and I plan to use every moment of it to my own personal advantage.
